Curriculum

Kindergarten and First Grade Curriculum

Our kindergarten and first grade classrooms serve all children in the Marion School District, stressing academic, physical, emotional, and social development. The curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate, hands-on experiences that build receptive and expressive language skills, as well as academic skills in reading, writing, and math. Common Core Curriculum materials include:


Scott Foresman - This programs is a combination of phonics and language instruction, emphasizing selections from children’s literature in conjunction with a strong phonics program. Reading/Spelling/Language/Social Studies/Science/Writing


Language Mastery - Direct instruction in receptive and expressive language used in the Early Intervention program and with the lowest Distar groups.


Reading Mastery - Direct instruction in phonics and word attack strategies to develop reading skills with every student.


Second Step - A curriculum designed to reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior in young children and increase their level of social competence.


My Math - Instruction is focused on the skills as set forth in the Common Core State Curriculum.


Arkansas History - Instruction covers how Arkansas people, cultures, and systems are connected; the continuity and change in Arkansas, cultural perspectives, scarcity and choice, cooperation and conflict, and citizenship.


Modern Manuscript Handwriting - Our school has adopted the Modern Manuscript handwriting program.


Teachers also use teacher-created units of study to enrich the curriculum and to encourage language development.
